The Odoo upgrade starts with an audit

Odoo version migration isn’t just about clicking “Update.” Every database has its own history, including custom modules, technical debt, and data quirks that can turn an upgrade into a disruption.

Our audit first approach gives you a clear picture of what’s in your system, what could break, and what it will take to upgrade with confidence.

Transparency first

What you receive from the audit

Complete module & customization inventory with version compatibility
Integration map and third party dependency assessment
Data model review and migration impact analysis
Written test plan covering critical business flows
Staging environment plan with estimated downtime window
Fixed scope upgrade proposal with timeline and firm price

If you are comparing Odoo partners for an upgrade, ask for a module matrix, a written test plan, a downtime estimate from a staging run, and a fixed quote after audit. That is the bar we work to.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book an audit.

1 How long does an Odoo upgrade take?

There is no single answer. A small database on a short version jump with little custom code can move in a few weeks. A larger environment with many custom modules, integrations, and multi company accounting often needs several weeks of staging, testing, and UAT before cutover.

The audit gives you a realistic range for your system. We do not quote a generic timeline before we have seen your module list and hosting path.

2 What happens to our custom code?

Every customization is reviewed in the audit. Each item is classified: keep as is, update for the new version, replace with standard Odoo, or retire because nobody uses it anymore.

Not all custom code survives a major version jump. That is normal. The goal is to know which code matters before go live, not discover it when users log in on Monday.

3 How much downtime should we plan for?

Downtime is the window when users cannot work in production: freeze, backup, upgrade or promote the tested database, smoke test, then open.

Plan from a staging run on a recent copy of your database, not a guess. Small clean systems may need only a few hours. Larger warehouse or month end sensitive environments often need an evening or weekend. Your audit includes a downtime estimate based on that staging run.

4 What if something goes wrong? Can we roll back?

Yes, if you plan for it. Before cutover we agree a rollback owner, a restore path from the pre cutover backup, and a time limit. For example, if smoke tests fail by a set time, we restore and reschedule.

Rollback is not a failure. It is how you avoid running a broken system because a date was immovable.

5 Why do we need a staging environment?

Staging is a full copy of production upgraded before anyone touches live data. That is where custom modules break, accounting lines stop reconciling, and integrations point at the wrong endpoints, in a place where fixing them does not stop the business.

Your team also walks real workflows on staging and signs off by name. That sign off is what makes go live defensible to finance and operations.

6 Do you upgrade Odoo.sh and on premise?

Yes. Both paths are in scope.

Odoo.sh upgrades follow Odoo's hosted tooling and branch workflow. We still inventory modules, test on a staging branch, and plan cutover with your freeze window.

On premise and other hosting typically use dump and restore or your existing infrastructure. Backup, restore timing, and rollback are sized explicitly in the audit.

Hosting choice changes effort and downtime. It is one of the first questions on the audit form.

7 Is the audit free or paid?

The Odoo upgrade audit is a flat $2,000. If you choose Silverdale to complete your upgrade, the full $2,000 audit cost is applied toward the cost of the upgrade.

The audit gives you a clear picture of what needs to happen before the upgrade, including risks, testing requirements, expected effort, and the recommended path forward.

8 How does the upgrade path differ for Odoo Enterprise and Community?

Odoo Community upgrades are generally much less complex, and in many cases you may not need a partner to assist with the upgrade.

Odoo Enterprise databases tend to be more complex. They are more likely to include customizations, Studio changes, additional features, and other dependencies that need to be reviewed and tested as part of the upgrade. For Enterprise environments, we recommend working with an experienced Odoo partner to plan, test, and complete the upgrade properly.

Still on Odoo 14 or 15? Planning before end-of-support avoids emergency upgrades.
