Manufacturing often involves inevitable material loss due to waste, defects, or overconsumption. However, applying a one-size-fits-all scrap policy doesn't always reflect real-world scenarios. The Scrap Quantity Control feature gives manufacturers the flexibility to define how scrap is calculated, using configurable rules that align with your production strategy.

With this enhancement, manufacturing operations in Odoo can now apply precise scrap quantity logic, either globally or by product category — giving production managers greater control over cost accuracy and material planning.

Four Scrap Logic Options

Choose from the following predefined configurations:

1. Scrap Quantity = 0 – no scrap added
2. Scrap Quantity = 1 – Odoo default behavior
3. Scrap Quantity = To Consume Quantity from MO – use MO demand as scrap
4. Scrap Quantity = BoM Quantity of Component – apply BoM-based scrap quantity

Apply by Product Category or Globally

1. Apply rules to specific product categories or globally to all components.
2. For uncategorized products, the system falls back to Odoo's default behavior (scrap = 1).

Enhances MO Processing Logic

1. When confirming a Manufacturing Order, the selected scrap logic determines how much extra quantity is pulled for each component.
2. Accurately reflects your organization’s scrap standards and material consumption policies.

1. Navigate to Settings → Silverdale Extensions → Manufacturing → Scrap Quantity Control
2. Select your scrap rule and assign product categories — no coding needed.

Example Use Case:

A manufacturer produces assemblies with both metal brackets (prone to exact usage) and plastic parts (with common scrap due to trimming). They want to:

1. Apply “Scrap Quantity = 0” for metal categories
2. Use “Scrap Quantity = BoM Quantity” for plastics

By selecting each rule and applying it to the relevant product category, their scrap logic now mirrors real operations, ensuring optimal stock levels, accurate planning, and reduced waste.
